Hello all, I was wondering if anyone can possibly help me with registering a chat nickname?  I am using Kvirc version 3.4.0, and have been unable to register my nickname.  I apologize in advance if this topic has been addressed previously, as I could not find any forum threads on this in a search.  Thanks for all your help.

Only identification on Nickserv is built-in (I guess, because this proccess is more or less standardized).
You have to manually register on Nickserv or use appropriate KVIrc addons.
For information on how to manually register try 
/msg nickserv help

Thank you for your reply.  I tried that command, but received this message: *** For your security use '/NickServ <command>' or '/quote NickServ <command>' instead..  I am not sure how to register my nickname on NickServ, or which commands to use...

In my network the command 
/nickserv help register
works fine.

I think, that security advise comes from the intent to make a distinction between ordinary users (you can send /msg to) and services (you can use commands directly), so that when servises are down noone could intercept passwords by simply taking the NickServ nick.

When I typed in the command, I got some information on setting a password that I didn't quite understand.  I guess I am not sure how to type in commands, or the command to register my nickname, and where to go from there.  I am very much a novice at Kvirc.  I couldn't really find the answers I needed in the help index...I'm not quite sure what to do...

You're novice at IRC first of all) NickServ is an IRC-service.
In my network the command looks like 
/nickserv register h67fusdf

And your current nick would be registered.
